What an exciting year 2009 has been for Naomi Circle. You have probably seen these members setting up communion each month, collecting items for the Rochester Women's Shelter, meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall, having devotions and often finishing the meeting by filling bags or baskets with goodies and taking them to people on the "Thinking of You" list. Or they were cutting out angel costumes for the community live nativity, making a quilt for a wedding gift, assembling baskets and needlecrafts to help raise funds for the local Habitat for Humanity project or sewing school bags for Dulac mission. Other times you have seen them in the community delivering meals on wheels, passing out advertising for the summer ice cream social or the winter Jul Bazaar. When they were home they were baking breads, cakes and cookies for bake sales or the bazaar. Just recently they have started a Prayer Shawl Ministry and are busy making prayer shawls when they aren't knitting, crocheting or sewing caps and mittens for Santa Anonymous. Sunday mornings would find them searching their purses for coins to add to the collection plate for the SEMCAC family Penny Fund. Through all of this the Sunshine Lady was busy sending cards to church members who were ill, dealing with problems, being confirmed or graduating. In the summer they provided money and a personal letter for the Compassion International child, Marie. So you can see that they are a really busy group and really enjoy being the hands and the feet of our Lord, Jesus Christ. |

2009 was an encouraging year in the Kasson United Methodist Women. Since moving our meetings to Sunday mornings during the coffee hour more members are able to attend. Setting our meeting day as the fourth Sunday of the month has also helped us to anticipate and plan for that time. Many of our in-house activities remain the same as last year; supporting the service groups and their responsibilities, maintenance and repairs for the kitchen, providing for the cleaning of the kitchen and fellowship hall floors, purchasing poinsettias for our shut-ins at Christmas time and making available copies of the Upper Room to our church members for the support of personal devotions. We continued our donations toward supporting our youth group, the education department, the Dulac mission team, Interfaith Hospitality, silent helper fund, parish nurse and other outreach organizations such as : Hiawatha Homes, Emma Norton Home, Seasons Hospice, Dorothy Day House and the SE District UMW. Some of the high points in our year were serving the wedding reception for Rodney and Carol Beckman, entertaining the K-M community with an ice cream social and square dancing by the Rochester Sr. Citizens dancers and of course, the Yul Bazaar. Marking the "passing of the torch" were the gatherings in memory of Margaret Beckman and Margaret Johnson. With thoughts of these women we also remember all the others who led us through learning to support our church family. A new area of interest has been the local Habitat for Humanity project. Many of our group were involved in the kick-off soup supper to raise money to get the project started and the basket auction and craft and needlework sales that were held to help raise funds. In addition, many church members continue to be involved by working at the site and serving meals to the workers. We look forward to a new year of supporting our church family, and reaching out to our community and the world beyond, following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ who taught us to love one another. With sincere appreciation for all the work and love the members have exhibited, Ruth Schomburg |
