About this painting: This copy was generously sent to us by Michelle Johnson of Paynesville, MN
Here is the picture of KUMC that Harold Grimstad painted for Michelle's Grandma Ethel (Beard) Quick in 1987. Harold was the husband of Ethel's sister, Edith May Beard. Ethel and Edith were the daughters of Lee A. and Bessie L. (Fiegel) Beard of Kasson. Harold used a postcard as his model, since the church had already been torn down by then (I believe). The two crosses represent her son Charles who had died in 1971 and her husband, Jack who died in 1976. (Ethel and Jack were married in that church). Ethel had this on her living room wall from 1987 until she died in 2007. It now resides in the home of her daughter, Audrey (Quick) Buss. |

Sent to us by Edith Beard's Granddaughter, Mother of Michelle Johnson. February 2, 2009. The painting is by Edith Beard's husband, Harold Grimstad. I also have a post card of the old church...it is in the heritage album! I remember going to Sunday School in that church when I was little and visited Grandma Beard. Grandma and Grandpa Beard were very active in the church...she was choir director in the 1930's, taught Sunday School and was in "Lady's Aid" and he was Sunday School Superintendent and in the choir and also a male quartet. They were friends with Rev. Theodore Mondale when he was Pastor there (Walter Mondale's father).
